Institute for Research in Microbiology and Agroindustrial Biotechnology

The Institute for Research in Microbiology and Agroindustrial Biotechnology is an academic unit that integrates groups and lines of research in areas of knowledge in: biological sciences, microbiology and agroindustrial biotechnology, as a platform from which scientific research, social projection and undergraduate and graduate academic programs articulated with the areas described are promoted.

The Institute is projected to be recognized nationally and internationally in the field of Microbiology and Agroindustrial Biotechnology, through the consolidation of its groups, research lines and academic programs and the implementation of innovation and technological development projects for the agroindustrial sector.

The Institute for Research in Microbiology and Agroindustrial Biotechnology brings together the following actors:

Research groups

Research lines

Agribusiness development:

It makes contributions to regional needs through research framed within its main lines of action: food safety and quality, agro-industrial technology, and the biological use of agro-industrial waste. Seeking positive impacts on the availability, access, quality and safety of agricultural products.

In addition, it seeks to promote work with the productive and interinstitutional sector and the promotion of formative research, improving the immersion in the research processes of the students of the programs related to the GIMIBAG group, and involving the human talent of the Institute for Research in Microbiology and Agroindustrial Biotechnology (IMBA) and the academic programs related to the group (Bacteriology, Nutrition and Dietetics, Environmental Engineering, Master's Degree in Agroindustrial Microbiology, Master's Degree in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology and T&T programs).

Sustainable management of biodiversity and biomass for the production of products, goods and services:

The categories in which the line of research is circumscribed are: biodiversity and biomass as central axes in which the principles of bioeconomy and biotechnology are applied to obtain bioproducts of industrial importance. This is a strategy for the promotion of sustainable development.
